Another day, another remake in horror hits the headlines as its been announced that Anders Engström is to bring a new take on The Changeling.
Released in 1980 and directed by Peter Medak, the original that starred the likes of George C. Scott and Trish Van Devere, is regarded as as one of the greatest haunted house horrors of all time, so this bit of news has caused a bit of a stir among the horror community.
Tab Murphy has written the new screenplay which promises to have “several twists and turns”
Starring George C. Scott, the original film had the following synopsis:
Deadline hears that Murphy’s script adds in “several new twists and turns”.
The original film’s producer Joel Michaels is also producing the remake in which he made the following quote:
I am overjoyed at having the unique opportunity to reimagine an updated version of the iconic film The Changeling that I produced so many years ago. It’s flattering to know that it proved to have inspired a rash of filmmakers that paid homage to the original film. I am excited to be working with Anders Engström who will bring his own contemporary vision to the film
It be very interesting to see how this pans out…..
Like the original movie, but it’s not the worst idea I’ve ever heard for a remake, as long as the original stays in circulation.

Never a fan of this remake lark. Its probably from being scarred in 1998 when I was so looking forward of seeing the PSYCHO remake (it was an era when Horror remakes were rare) and left the cinema, shaken at experience. How they thought that by showing Norman “pleasuring” himself would enhance the film….is a mystery to me…even 23 years later….

That is one of the worst examples, although the film does have some defenders. Worked for The Fly but film-makers have to bring something new to the table, and it had to be something that enhances the original. We’ll see how this one works out…
