Work is underway on the planned remake of 90’s slasher hit Urban Legend which will be directed by WHAT  KEEPS YOU ALIVE writer-director Colin Minihan.

The film will star Sydney Chandler and Katherine McNamara in the lead roles and the official synopsis has been released:

The movie will center on a diverse cast of college students as they navigate a series of bizarre deaths that resemble urban legends linked to the darkest corners of social media.

The original film, jumped on the back of the success of Scream and while it has become a massive cult fav among Slasher fans, the quality of the film hasn’t got any better over the years, with some ridiculous set pieces that will bring more laughs than scares to a new audience.

A great killer reveal though and a few nice touches does make the film a guilty pleasure and a reboot will hopefully add to what is a real good premise.

According to a report in Collider, the new film will  “explore deepfake technology, which is becoming more popular — and accessible — online“.
