In a surprise announcement, Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock is heading back to the very film that set him on the path to the action star he is today.

The Scorpion King which was released way back in 2002 and was a spin off to the hit franchise The Mummy is set for the remake treatment but this time, Johnson himself will not take the lead role, but will serve as a producer of the film  alongside Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions company. Universal Pictures are also behind the idea.

Straight Outta Compton writer Jonathan Herman will write the script.

Johnson was thrilled to be back in a franchise that he is fond of by saying,

The Scorpion King was my very first role ever on the silver screen and I’m honoured and excited to reimagine and deliver this cool mythology to a whole new generation.

I wouldn’t have had the career I’m lucky enough to have had it not been for The Scorpion King and I’m thrilled that we at Seven Bucks Productions can help create those same opportunities for other hard-working actors today. I believe Jonathan Herman will put in the hard work to deliver a fantastic script for our global audience

Lets hope for better CGI this time.
