Girl meets boy…..both fall in love…..a weekend away…..blood and carnage erupts!

It starts with a line lifted straight from a typical 90s rom-com. “There’ve been two moments in my life when I was happiest. The first was the day I met Josh….” But finishes with a killer punch…”“And the second was the day I killed him.”

Sophie Thatcher who is vastly becoming the breakout star of hit TV show YELLOWJACKETS portrays Iris, a woman who meets Josh (Jack Quaid) at a supermarket and the result is one of those ultimate love stories that can only happen in the movies. Both feel suited to each other, with Iris basically obsessed with this handsome guy on her arm. She seems nice, he seems loyal and then a twist emerges and the film flips! Its clear that this is a movie that will most likely fantastically improve if you don’t know what the beginning is building up too.

Now there are hints, some lines that quite clearly give the game away, but if you are lucky enough to know nothing about this movie then we will not reveal it here. The trailer basically spoilt the reveal, frustrating many who wanted to enjoy the chaos, but in the defence of writer/director Drew Hancock, he doesn’t waste any time revealing the films hand, wanting the viewer to embrace the madness and share with the sheer audacity and gory carnage that is all set to occur.

Basically, Iris and Jack go for a romantic weekend away with some friends, led by Russian slimeball Sergey (a delightful Rupert Friend) and after a few too many drinks on the first night, Josh tells Iris to go for a morning walk on her own, in which she does and while on a walk, she discovers a knife in her pocket and then what follows – CENSORED –

You most likely know the twist. Its hard to avoid, but if you are one of the rare ones that don’t, we’ll just say that come the end of this year, we very much expect COMPANION to be on our Top 5 of the best films of the year. Its funny, chaotic with layers of tension and yet most importantly. makes you root for Iris at every particular turn.

All you really need to know is that, its one of those films you’ll guaranteed to have a wickedly good time. A horror thriller boasted by stellar performances, hordes of black humour, added by the fact that this is a unique tale of what happens when a boy and girl meet with the promise of them being made for each other and yet it goes totally wrong…..

Now avoid the obligatory trailer added to this review:
