Having once flirted with doing an ALIEN film, Neill Blomkamp has signed up to direct a brand new STARSHIP TROOPERS film, news that will excite fans of the much loved franchise.
Columbia Pictures has hired Blomkamp who will base the move on Robert A. Heinlein’s 1959 novel so expect it to be a bit different to Paul Verhoeven’s cult 1997 film.
THR details, “Starship Troopers ostensibly told of an interstellar war between Earth and a host of bug-like aliens, and focused on a rise of a military serviceman named Johnny Rico. But the story had other things on its minds, like exploring the strengths of life in a military society and such ideas as having to perform service in order to have voting rights.”
Blomkamp seems the perfect fit for this much anticipated return of the war against the bugs….
