Its been a while since SAW XI was in the news, all we had was confirmation that the eleventh instalment was being made, more so after the critical and commercial success of SAW X, we also heard that Tobin Bell was returning as Jigsaw – but then nothing!
Shocking news broke during the week that the sequel has been cancelled and that there are no plans for it, which is quite baffling, considering how popular this franchise is among horror fans and now SAW veteran writer Patrick Melton has confirmed with the guys over at THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER that since handing in the script a year ago, nothing has moved forward.
Here is what he said:
“We haven’t heard anything since May. It’s stalled at a managerial level. It has nothing to do with the creative or anything else. There’s higher-level things at play. Saw XI may or may not be made, but we have a very timely story in it, and I hope it gets made just because of that. It taps into the same themes of Saw VI, where you’re a citizen, you feel angry and frustrated with something, you feel like you can’t do anything, and John Kramer’s going to do it. The reason it’s held up is just, there’s inter-squabbling between producers and Lionsgate. They just can’t quite get on the same page.“
And that is really is the bottom line. The legendary guys over at BLOODY DISGUSTING have heard whispers that the rights to the franchise may be sold off and the franchise would start over….
But until we get anything concrete, it seems that Jigsaw may be heading down the same road as poor Jason Voorhees has, over the last many years…..
