Sarah Michelle Gellar has broken the hearts of all BUFFY fans as she has announced that the planned reboot of the 90s supernatural fantasy series had been cancelled by Hulu.

News of the planned return of the iconic TV show was greeted with huge delight from fans when it broke last year with Gellar returning to her signature role but late last night she announced on Social Media that the whole project has been shelved.

“I am really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me,” she said in a video posted on Instagram. “Unfortunately, Hulu has decided not to move forward with Buffy New Sunnydale.

“I want to thank Chloé Zhao because I never thought I would find myself back in Buffy’s stylish, yet affordable boots, and thanks to Chloe, I was reminded how much I love her and how much she means not only to me, but to all of you. And this doesn’t change any of that.

Gellar added: “I promise, if the apocalypse actually comes, you could still beep me.”

Hulu are yet to comment on their sudden and unexpected change of heart.
