News started to spread this morning, but it’s now been officially confirmed by the actress herself as Neve Campbell has officially confirmed that she will not be appearing in the next Scream film.

In an official statement, this is what she said:

“Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film. As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to ScreamI felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”

“It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years,”

The next film which is due to start filming in the spring, will be the first of the franchise not to have the character Sydney Prescot appear, which leaves only Courteney Cox’s Gale Weather’s as the last remaining legacy character to appease fans of old.

Will a Sydney no show spoil the latest film or will the return of Hayden Panettiere’s Kirby, last seen in Scream IV, be enough?

We have to wait and see.
