Its one of the most memorable Slasher cult flicks of all time – with an ending that while we’ll never spoil here – is etched into many fans memories.
Now Robert Hiltzik is gearing up to remake his 1983 cult slasher Sleepaway Camp — and original star Felissa Rose is already eyeing a return.
Speaking at a recent convention, Rose shared her thoughts on revisiting the infamous horror classic — and it sounds like this isn’t just about bringing back the kills… but getting the tone right.
Given the film’s unforgettable twist, Rose stressed that any remake needs to be handled with care:
“We really need to be tender with it… and give it the best reimagining we can.”
She went on to highlight the importance of approaching the material with a modern perspective, particularly when it comes to representation:
“It needs to be handled with understanding of our trans community and LGBTQ community… it has to be done right.”
Rose made it clear she wants the remake to explore the character on a deeper level and she’s already got her eye on a role.
Specifically, Aunt Martha — memorably played by Desiree Gould in the original.
“I want to play Aunt Martha, so that’s what I’ve been telling them… that would be super fun.”
She also pointed to the film’s final moments as something worth expanding on:
“In the very end, there’s Aunt Martha with Peter… we don’t hear Peter’s side of that conversation, and I think that could be pivotal in understanding where that character stands. I think we need to dig deep into that.”
