You can’t keep a good – sorry, evil – Leprechaun down, as Lionsgate have confirmed that a brand-new film is on the way, with a writing team boasting a seriously impressive horror CV.
Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan (Saw IV through to Saw 3D, The Collector) have been hired to write the new Leprechaun movie, a franchise that remains deeply loved by horror fans, despite the well-known misgivings of Jennifer Aniston, who starred in the 1993 original and, well… doesn’t mention it much these days.
According to Deadline, Oren Koules and Miles Koules are set to produce the new entry through their Koulest Productions banner, with the plot being kept firmly under wraps.
“After producing all the Saw films, and twenty-three wonderful years at Lionsgate, I’m thrilled to be working again with the Lionsgate team, Patrick and Marcus, and my son, Miles, on a terrifying new way into the rich world of Leprechaun,” Koules told Deadline.
Let’s hope they can bring some of the much-needed fun back to the franchise.
It’s very unlikely Warwick Davis will return, but Linden Porco did such a good job in the underrated Leprechaun Returns (2018) that we’d love to see him back in the role.
